Understanding the Role of Edge Computing
Table of Contents
How about the future of computing? What is it we are looking at here? What I am talking about is the so-called Edge computing. This is the so-called technology of virtualization, which is already becoming a fundamental part of virtualization. This includes things like:
Virtualization uses software to run different operating systems (even though most of them are running on the same hardware). For example, Windows is a software program. Linux is a variant of Windows. And virtualization allows software vendors to co-operatively share and run these two operating systems on the same hardware.
The same thing can be said of networking. If you are trying to set up a networking system that is able to handle the load of hundreds or thousands of users, you can bet that you will have some degree of expertise. In some cases, you might have to hire an expert. However, in the case of edge computing, the virtualization of certain processes makes it so that you can use less hands to get the job done. You can easily focus on things like video conferencing or remote access.
The final role of edge computing is one that is related to storage. Computers tend to be more expensive than other forms of storage because they are much larger. If you buy them on site, you can take care of their maintenance and storage while you are there. However, if you have a network of many computers that are spread around the world, you are going to need to use some form of public storage. The server you use should be able to provide you with fast access to this information and, if anything, help you make it inexpensive enough to use.
